The 2012 Surf N Sea’s event at Haleiwa was a super fun day at the beach with friends and family. I flew over to Honolulu from Maui the night before the race – and then my dad and I got up super early and drove from Kaneohe to the North Shore.
The day kicked off with a 4-mile race in a circle and then back to the beach for a running finish. I used my Starboard 12’6″ BOP Race board. There was crosswind, headwind and a little wind behind me. I had a great start and got to the front right in the beginning and stayed there for the two laps and hit the beach in first. (more…)

Chase Kosterlitz joins Watermans Applied Science
The 14’ SUP World Champion looks forward to 2012 Season.
Orange County, CA – Chase Kosterlitz is no stranger to the world of competitive paddling. This standout East Coast racer looks to Watermans Applied Science to keep him protected during long hours of training in the Florida sunshine.
Chase knows Watermans is a brand and sunscreen he can trust. “I’m excited to work with a company that will help me stay protected when I’m out in the sun,” said Kosterlitz. “Between teaching lessons at Water Monkey, surfing, kiting and racing that is a pretty tall order.” Kosterlitz is recognized one of the worlds dominate paddlers in the 14’ class and plans to expand his influence through competition in Europe this summer.
Watermans Applied Science has been a prominent supporter of the sport of Standup Paddling and its athletes since 2007. The Watermans line of premium high-performance sun protection products are universally recognized as the most durable and effective protection program for paddling.

The first ever 2011 Gorge Challenge was a great, fun event. There were three different races – the Elite course race, the long distance, and the most fun part – the team relay.
The event took place in Hood River Oregon, which is one of my favorite places to go, because there is so much to do. Before the race I got to windsurf, kayak, as well as go down the rapids on a SUP board. (more…)

We could go on and on about the delicate intricacies of making you a better surfer (and trust us, we undoubtedly will) but there’s a seldom-sung-yet-hugely-important side to surfing that’s far too overlooked: Paddling. If you want to surf better, you’ll need to start catching more waves. And if you want to catch more waves, you’ll need to become a stronger paddler. To get your arms churning at capacity, we rang up 10-time paddleboard champ Jamie Mitchell for some insight. (more…)

It’s 10:00 PM on the West coast, and most of us are finishing up our day. Picking sand out of various crevices, tucking in the kids, and getting ourselves ready for bed. But while we sleep, and when we wake up, Rob Rojas and Kyle Mochizuki will still be paddling. They are supporting Love 146.Org, an organization that serves to combat child sex trafficking around the globe. The goal is to raise awareness and or money to support the cause. Go to www.Love 146.org/tot for more info. If you’d like to donate you can type in ‘Rob Rojas’ for a link to the page.
Special thanks to Rob for organizing this and for standing up for something he believes in. Cheers pal!
You guys are going to be really sick of that island…
