Watermans Sunblock worth looking for!

picture-21

Those in the know will tell you that in Orange County the most succesful companies started off with a grass-roots sticker program. Whether it be Quiksilver, Volcom and RVCA or newer fresh brands such as Atwater, Factor 54 and Tavik their stickers are everywhere.

The same holds true for Watermans, which is not an apparel company. However, if you have seen two-tone blue stickers around town with a logo that looks like King Neptune’s spearhead (or an icon from a Transformer’s toy in the shape of a “W”), that is Watermans “Applied Science” sunscreen. Their logo is high voltage and thier product is select. Watermans sunscreen comes in a pump (so no flip-top or squeeze-tube mess) or available in a stick (like Shisheido or Vertra).

The South swell was pumping in Newport the second week of September and the late-drop lefts off the 44th Street jetty were firing! I tried Watermans SPF33 three days straight…morning, noon and night and I surfed in the sun ’til hell wouldn’t have it. Watermans hung in there on my face for each 2 hour session leaving me no traces of sunburn. Greasy and messy sunblocks that I have used in the past such as Zinc Oxide, Bullfrog and Aloegator to newer mainstream products made by Neutrogena, Coppertone & Banana Boat don’t even compare to Watermans. My latest protection from the UVA and UVB rays was Shisheido on my nose and under my eyes on my cheeks with Hawaiian Island Creations 2X sunblock covering the rest of my face. Watermans has now taken both of their places.

After further testing, I happened to notice that Watermans wasn’t greasy, but to the contrary quite sticky on my face and hands. While paddling out, I witnessed another surfer slip off his rails while dropping into tasty overhead wave. After coming up for air, post lobster-dive, he blamed his sunblock saturated hands for his over-the-falls-slip. This wouldn’t have happened had he been using Watermans.

Their one-of-a kind suncreen in a pump is available in SPF18, SPF33 and SPF55. They also offer an SPF33 lip-balm and face-sticks in SPF18 and SPF30+. If you live the outdoor life style and enjoy surfing, stand-up paddle boarding, kayaking, outrigger canoing, fishing, sailing, swimming, lifeguarding or simply want the best protection from the sun then don’t live life in the shadows….buy Watermans. – Dane Petersen
