Watermans’ Brianna Cope, 16, represents a rising tide of younger athletes ready to take on the older guard. This Kauai native was rated the top NSSA Explorer women’s competitor at 15, models for Roxy and looks up to Alana Blanchard. She is definitely one to watch for years to come.

Huntington Beach, Calif. (January 26, 2011)—Quiksilver (NYSE:ZQK) and the Association of Surfing
Professionals (ASP) today announced The Quiksilver Pro New York, set to take place on Long
Beach, New York from September 4-15. The Quiksilver Pro New York will be the 6th stop on the ASP
2011 World Tour and the first-ever ASP World Title Race stop on the east coast of the United States.
The event will offer a $1 million dollar prize purse to competitors, an amount unprecedented in
professional surfing. The Quiksilver Pro New York will expand The Quiksilver Pro Global Series,
which also includes The Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast in Australia (February 26-March 9) and The
Quiksilver Pro France (October 4-15).

When it comes to equipment the choices far outweigh the relevance.
If Kelly Slater taught us anything over the last twenty years it is simply that he is unique. How else can one explain ten world titles spread out over 17 years of continual progression? Regardless, surfing culture became the culture of Kelly Slater. Surfers around the globe wore what he wore, rode what he rode and aspired to his every move. Somewhere along the way, every one of us failed to notice that the same approach didn’t do squat for 100+ of the world best competitive surfers as they attempted to dethrone the king.
